Radiation Effects Physicist/Scientist, SME Scientist, SME Eglin AFB, Florida Fort Walton Beach, Florida HX5 is an award-winning provider of engineering, research and development, and technical services to clients such as NASA and the Department of Defense. HX5 is currently seeking a Radiation Effects Physicist/Scientist, SME to support the Nuclear Weapons Acquisition Division, AFNWC/NDB. This Division has responsibility for developing, testing, and producing systems and components related to nuclear strategic weapon systems for our nation’s warfighters including the B61-12 Tail-kit Assembly and the Long-Range Standoff (LRSO) Missile. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Perform engineering tasks, research, studies, and analyses that provide engineering and technical assessments for the program office’s problem definition, requirement development, plus system analyses of the offeror’s approach to mitigate, harden, and test the LRSO CM against ionizing radiation effects to include High-altitude Electro-Magnetic Pulse (HEMP). * Requires in-depth knowledge of nuclear environment survivability. * Participate in the program’s hardness assurance plan, including radiation test and analysis supporting design development, reliability testing, and production. * Serve as a highly credible scientist/physicist in the area of ionizing radiation effects on electronics and testing of electronics to withstand radiation effects. * Assess contractor’s proposed radiation test plans for both radiation simulation fidelity and appropriateness of test conditions to assure a complete and conservative result. * Assess planned radiation test’s compliance with ASTM, MIL-STD-750 and 883 test methods. * Evaluate potential radiation simulation errors that might generate false test conclusions. * Travel to various radiation test facilities as required and participate/witness contractor’s radiation tests of piece-parts, sub-assemblies, and larger levels of integration. * Support radiation testing for total ionizing dose, dose rate and neutron effects (damage and single event effects). * Assess planned radiation test data capture for fidelity and completeness of hardness conclusions. * Assess sufficiency/accuracy of proposed radiation dosimetry. * Review contractor’s radiation test analyses for appropriate statistical treatment to meet program requirements of probability of success with a given confidence. * Review contractor’s worst case circuit analyses for assessment of radiation failure levels and design margins. * Conduct and support all engineering and technical activities required during the technology maturation and risk reduction. * Participate in and support the trade studies activities associated with the system architecture design, providing the LRSO chief engineer assessments of the strengths and weaknesses of candidate architectures to radiation effects. * Support the definition of system and subsystem performance, verification, and interface requirements to ensure the resulting system meets the stakeholder requirements related to radiation effects. * Define technical performance/high risk tasks which will be important to measure and control during the course of a CM development effort. * Support the development of system, subsystem, and component test plans, and participate in the conduct of system, subsystem, and component testing. * Assist the LRSO Program Chief Engineer in the assessment of contractor conducted System Engineering Technical Review and Knowledge Point reviews. Minimum Education and Experience Must have the following combinations of education and experience: * MS in a related discipline with fifteen (15) years of experience or Ph.D. in a related discipline with five (5) years of experience Desired Educational and Experience Requirement * Ph.D. IRD with twenty five (25) years of relevant experience or Master’s IRD and twenty five (25) years of relevant experience (waiver justification required) and recognized at national level in a technical field, specialized engineering, or technology area. Must be published in the area of expertise and have taught formally in the area (conference/symposium). Must be a US Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance by date of hire and complete additional security screening. (Active within 6 yrs) Must be able to travel as required.
