Social Scientist – REMOTE

HSAG is nationally recognized as an industry leader in the areas of healthcare policy, measure development, healthcare data analysis, and survey research. We are in search of talented individuals who are interested in a new Social Scientist position created to support a national Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) contract focused on kidney disease called the End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) National Coordinating Center (NCC). The Social Scientist position supports the conceptualization and creation of clinical, technical, and analytic deliverables, including high-visibility public-facing reports to provide policy makers with the necessary information to transform kidney care. The Social Scientist will in assist various research efforts, including conducting literature reviews and environmental scans, and designing methodological, conceptual, and strategical approaches for the use and analysis of healthcare data and information focused on health equity and kidney disease.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Investigate issues related to health inequities in the ESRD patient population and identify potential and innovative solutions to advancing kidney care nationwide.
  • Apply existing behavioral and social science research principles, concepts, and methods to execute tasks including identification of health inequities, drafting of coding, analyzing data and other information; reviewing scientific literature; and conducting literature reviews.
  • Use varied qualitative and quantitative research methods, as well as data visualization, including with the use of statistical software.
  • Conduct briefings and national presentations on health equity for the CMS ESRD National Coordinating Center.
  • Coordinate activities with renal experts, and others linked to the care of kidney patients, as well as those knowledgeable in areas of socioeconomic concerns.
  • Serve as a recognized subject matter expert and recommend ESRD priorities related to health equity, identify additional experts in the social, behavioral, and health sciences, refine and/or recommend quality improvement strategies, conduct analyses and distilling findings for CMS and renal community

Essential Competencies,

  • Proficient writing skills with the skills to plan and execute high visibility reports
  • Ability to apply scientific and gray literature to the project while understanding limitations related to the literature
  • Experience with statistical methods and analytics (e.g., analysis using large databases including Medicare data or commercial and health plan data)
  • Design analytic approach to one or more project tasks
  • Conceptualize and prepare peer-review journal articles and industry white papers
  • Coordinate and supervise research tasks across projects
  • Experience with public speaking and presenting research to diverse stakeholder groups
  • Represent HSAG in a professional manner
