Sr. Director IT – Engineering and Strategy

Florida East Coast Railway

This is a Full-time position in Jacksonville, FL posted August 1, 2021.

Overview

Work within a team environment to analyze, build and improve the FEC IT infrastructure by identify needs for the network to improve functionality, security and provide greater utility for users by applying immediate tactical changes for improvements, while providing strategic recommendations to leadership for the ongoing maintenance of the mixed Windows/Linux server environment.

This role will require superior Linux skillsets and the ability to work within a team and support the management of the IT Operations team.

Responsibilities
Build and maintains Linux servers, create monitoring reports and logs, and ensures functionality of systemsManages user account information, including rights, security and systems groups (Linux, eDirectory)Serves as Operations team lead for field coordinationAssists in the evaluation and implementation of new technologies to optimize the Linux OS environmentManages, set-up, administers, support, and troubleshoot Linux server environmentAdministers and manages security roles and accessInstall and test hardware and applicablePerform reviews and necessary upgrades to system hardware and software components as requiredMake necessary recommendations for additional hardware or toolsWrite shell scripts to automate repetitive tasks (Perl, Python)VMware configuration and managementProvide performance monitoring and reporting, problem identification, management, and resolutionProvide technology scanning to and gather requirements from departments users for applicability of infrastructure products that are bought or developedMaintains software license complianceSupports disaster recovery planning methodologies for various risksServes as manager of the railroad’s managed services relationships, ensuring that our MSP(s) provide the levels of service that employees and customers require, and initiate corrective actionAssist in the development and maintenance of MSP documentation (commonly referred to as runbooks) to help assure appropriate responses and escalations for resolution.Work with internal staff and external vendors to constantly pursue runbook automationParticipate in a technical capacity in many phases of project life cycles, specifically in the capital planning and implementation, but also possibly in post-production support and on-going operating maintenanceEnsure that system enhancements follow IT guidelines, meet requirements, and are completed in timely fashionParticipate with and support Functional and Business Analysts in technology, such as business intelligence and analytics, and work with executives and operations staff to scan for and evaluate new technologiesEvaluate ROI and establish standard for business cases and reason and benefit statementsProvide technical assistance in application-related infrastructure and data managementReview and assess future application release functionality and related emerging technology to identify impact of upgrade to existing functionality base and integrationAssist in the design, development, and maintenance of Oracle/JD Edwards packaged applications and internally developed applications, including SAS business intelligence applications, and the computing and communications infrastructure on which they dependInterface with customers, business partners, Value Added Networks and 3rd party developers to plan and build the best B2B solution for their companyEnsure IT SOX compliance through proper testing of the design and operating effectiveness of general IT controls in the areas of security, physical access, user access, segregation of duties, change management, data back-ups and recovery and disaster recoveryManage and ensure compliance with our technology controls framework and drive continuous improvement of our controls to deliver tangible process improvements and the strengthening of our controls framework
Assist process owners in the preparation and on-going maintenance of IT-related process documentation (policies, procedures, narratives, control matrices)

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent10 or more years of relevant work experienceIndustry standard certifications (e.g.

LPIC-1 Linux Administrator, CompTIA Network+ and Linux+)Implementation experience with a focus on quality assurance, change management and change controlWorking knowledge on SQLExcellent knowledge and capability within the Linux environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in applicable studiesCisco and Windows proficiency
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Excellent trouble shooting skillsLeadership skillsTeam success skills and independent self-motivationA strong fundamental knowledge in several programming languagesExperience in IT and familiarity with SOX complianceStrong written and verbal communication skills across multiple levels and functionsStrong analytical and research skillsAble to work independently as well as part of a teamMust be detail oriented and analyticalMust have strong communication skills (verbal and written)Must have the ability to manage multiple complex work assignments simultaneously
